Dr. Douglas Hansen, MD, FAAFP

I was raised on a farm just off the Mississippi River in western Illinois.  Although most of my time was spent on the athletic field, earning four varsity letters  and NCAA Division I academic all-conference honors in cross country and track, I did find some time to graduate from Bradley University in 1995 with degrees in Biochemistry, Chemistry, and Psychology.  I graduated with honors from the University of Illinois College of Medicine in 1999 and immediately headed for Colorado, finished my residency at Saint Anthony Hospital and completed board certification in 2002.

I have been a practicing physician in the community since 1999 in Denver, Evergreen, and Littleton, Colorado.

My professional interests include, of course, my full-time outpatient practice, along with inpatient medicine, cardiovascular medicine, health promotion, sports medicine (American College of Sports Medicine trained), occupational health (Level II certified), minor surgery, teaching, medical acupuncture and complementary therapies, medical technology, and medical practice management.

I am board certified in Family Medicine with pending specialty certifications in Lipidology and Nutrition.  In 2005, I was named Fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice.  Additionally, I am a nationally requested speaker focusing on heart disease, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and diabetes, and exceed the criteria for excellence in diabetes and cardiovascular care from the National Committee on Quality Assurance.  On the sports medicine side, I am the team physician for the 7-time league champion Denver Titans semi-professional football team.

Unfortunately, I have spent most of 2007 and 2008 recovering from my own life-threatening illness.  This has given me a renewed perspective on life, patient care, and the practice of medicine.  As each cloud has a silver lining, out of this experience came the concept for Altitude Family & Internal Medicine, which I plan to make the premier facility for primary care medicine.

My personal interests with my wife, newborn daughter, and two Labradors include enjoying all of Colorado’s natural treasures.  I still love to run, old habits die hard.  I also love to backpack, hike, bike, and snowboard.
